WHAT TO EXPECT

The typical coaching engagement involves weekly or twice-monthly telephone conversations of varying lengths (anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes) for several weeks or months. When proximity allows, coaching can also take place in person. The duration of a coaching engagement can range from one session to an ongoing relationship of indefinite length.

The coaching plan and its topics are based on your goals as the client (see What is Leadership Coaching?). Processes might include strengths assessment, self-observation, identifying and clarifying goals, action plan development and other activities that support your ability to achieve sustainable success – whatever “success” means to you. *

* Coaching is not: mentoring, consulting, counseling, health care of any kind, nor a therapeutic relationship concerned with exploring or healing issues from the past. (The therapeutic process is very important – and can go hand-in-hand with coaching simultaneously – but it is a very different process from coaching.) Coaching starts with who you are and where you are today, and taps into your ability to see new possibilities and create more options for yourself as you move forward.
